BIM HERO DAO

BIM COORDINATORS is an international group of professionals in AEC (architecture, engineering, construction, property real-estate and infrastructure asset management), interested in BIM (building information management) and advancing the “digital transition” of the AEC sector. A “community” with shared “values” (appreciation for the value of information, and the value of the information managers), with the objective of celebrating and recognising “excellence” in information management, and sharing knowledge and expertise to significantly improve the built environment sector. A community, FOR the community, BY the community.​

Why “Decentralized”?

The sustainability, longevity, and scalability of any organisation, particularly “community” based organisations for “public good”, which rely on “goodwill” contributions, depends on distributing the leadership and governance over a larger group of people, so that the organisation is not dependent on the input and contribution of a small number of people to survive and thrive. Also, decentralized governance reduces the risk of corruption and collusion, that may occur where leadership and governance remains in the hands of a small group of people.

Why “Autonomous”?

As organisations “scale”, and become distributed across many geographical regions, the “administration” of governance (recording and executing decisions) becomes increasing difficult and prone to human error or potential corruption. Leveraging “technology” to record important transactions, as an open and immutable entry on the blockchain, will help maintain the integrity of the organisation over time.

Why “Organisation”?

Something special happens, when a group of like-minded people, who share common interests and values (things they find important) come together, and agree to “collaborate” (network, share ideas, knowledge, and contribute to the “greater good”). As they say, “...the whole is greater than the sum of the parts…”. Well-functioning organisations can achieve more, and have greater impact, than individuals working by themselves. This is especially true, where there is a common respect for each individual in the organisation, and recognition of the individual contribution each makes.

BIM HERO DAO is the governance smart contract behind the BIM Coordinators Community. It provides the “mechanism” for the community to “self-govern” and engage in open and transparent decision making in relation to governance of community activities. Community members will discuss ideas in the online community forum, until such time as these ideas are ready to be formulated into proposals and put to vote. The details of the proposals, the rules and records of votes, and outcomes/actions are all recorded on the blockchain, as an transparent, open and immutable record of all key transactions that govern the activity of this community.
